Beijing has suspended arms control and non-proliferation consultations with Washington over the sale of American weapons to Taiwan. This was stated by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Lin Jian, China News reports, Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru.
“The US ignored China’s repeated statements, continued to sell weapons to Taiwan and took a series of negative actions that undermined mutual trust between the two sides. Therefore, it was decided to suspend the talks and hold a new round of consultations on arms control and non-proliferation,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said.
Lin Jian stressed that the responsibility for what happened “lies entirely with the United States.” However, he added that Beijing is willing to maintain contacts with Washington on international arms control “based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation.”
