China has called on the Republic of Korea to speed up the next round of talks on the establishment of a free trade zone. The corresponding statement was made by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at a meeting with his South Korean counterpart Cho Tae-yeol, which took place in Laos on the sidelines of multilateral events within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

“While differences remain, the two sides should firstly seek common ground, do more to strengthen mutual trust, and avoid interference and exposure to external factors. Secondly, expand the scope of common interests, accelerate the second phase of negotiations on the China-ROK free trade agreement, and expand cooperation in new areas such as high-tech manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and artificial intelligence,” the website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry quotes him as saying.

Wang Yi also stressed that “China does not want to see war and chaos in the [Корейском] peninsula and calls on all interested parties to jointly play a constructive role in easing the situation and facilitating its political settlement.”
