China Showcases Domestic Aircraft with Flyby in Hong Kong
In a bid to demonstrate its aircraft-manufacturing capabilities, China conducted a flyby of Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour with its domestically made passenger plane designed to rival industry giants Airbus SE and Boeing Co.
The Commercial Aircraft Corp of China Ltd., also known as Comac, showcased its C919 jet by flying it around the harbor in two loops on Saturday morning. According to FlightRadar24’s live data, the aircraft flew as low as 700 feet (213 meters) during the demonstration.
The flyby served as a statement of China’s ambition to compete in the global aviation market. With the C919, China aims to challenge the dominance of Airbus and Boeing in the narrowbody aircraft segment.
