Xinjiang: China’s Resolute Opposition to US Sanctions Laws

2024-09-02 11:42:35

According to the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, on August 23, 2024, the “Resolution of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Resolutely Opposing the Series of US Sanctions Laws Involving Xinjiang and Supporting the Development of Sanctioned Enterprises and Relevant Industries” was approved by the 13th meeting of the Committee and promulgated, thus taking effect from the date of publication.

On June 21, 2022, the so-called “Prevention of Uyghur Forced Labor Law,” which prohibits the entry into the US market of goods involving so-called “forced labor” in Xinjiang, came into force in the United States. This law seriously undermines the right to production, operation, and development interests of Xinjiang enterprises, and all ethnic groups in the region express their strong indignation and resolute opposition. In order to expose the sinister intentions of this and other Xinjiang-related “Laws,” and to allow the international community and the people of Xinjiang to understand the truth that the United States is suppressing enterprises and undermining social stability and local development, the following resolution is presented:

First, the sanctions imposed by the United States on Xinjiang enterprises, under the guise of so-called “forced labor,” are essentially political manipulation and economic bullying disguised as human rights “protection,” with the intention of controlling and restraining China through Xinjiang.

Second, Xinjiang affairs are exclusively China’s internal affairs, and the United States’ brutal interference in the country’s internal affairs is a serious violation of international law and the basic principles of international relations, which all ethnic groups in Xinjiang resolutely oppose.

Third, the entire region should act immediately to support the development of sanctioned enterprises and related industries.
