The United States released new information about the Chinese spy balloon. The balloon was used to gather intelligence. An official at the US State Department said the balloon would also be capable of conducting communications signal and intelligence gathering operations. Earlier, the US had shot down a spy balloon found in the airspace.
Washington has again denied Beijing’s claim that the balloon was used for meteorological research and that it had strayed into US airspace. The balloon’s equipment is for reconnaissance surveillance. The US official also said in a written statement that it was not compatible with the equipment of the weather balloons.
The balloon has multiple antennas capable of collecting communication signals and geo-location. He also stated that large solar panels were installed to generate enough energy to operate the intelligence gathering sensors. The official added that the manufacturer of the balloon has direct links with the Chinese military.
The name of the company that made the balloon has not been released. He also said that such balloons have appeared in more than 40 countries across 5 continents. The US forces launched a missile attack on a Chinese balloon over South Carolina. Meanwhile, China condemned the shooting down of the balloon.
