Chinese car brands ranked second in sales in Russia in July

Cars of Chinese manufacturers in July occupied 24.3% of the total volume of the Russian market, follows from the data of the Avtostat agency. At the same time, Korean models occupied 21.2% of the market, losing to Chinese for the first time, while domestic brands occupied 30.9%.

In total, in July, Russians bought 8642 cars of Chinese brands, which was a record. From January to March, the share of Chinese car sales was only 9.5%, while in April it rose to 12.6%, in May to 16.9%, and in June to 21%.

Mostly among the “Chinese” residents of Russia bought cars of the brands Chery (2577 units), Geely (2323 cars), Haval (2155) and EXEED (1012). The sales volume of other Chinese brands was less than 200 pieces.

According to the Association of European Businesses, only 32,412 vehicles were sold in Russia in July, a drop of 74.9% (or 96,819) compared to the same period in 2021. AvtoVAZ ranked first in sales in Russia. Despite this, the company sold only 10,323 Lada cars, which is 68% less than in July 2021. In seven months of 2022, the company sold a total of 85,037 cars in Russia, which is 63% less than in the same period last year .

The only firm to show growth in July and seven months of 2022 was Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor Corporation. The company sold 203 vehicles in Russia in July 2022, an increase of 298% compared to July 2021, in just seven months, 816 vehicles were sold, an increase of 1,500% compared to the same period last year.
