Chinese Chery expects to choose a place to assemble cars in Russia by the end of the year

The Chinese automobile manufacturer Chery expects to agree on assembly with a local partner in Russia by the end of 2023. Sun Luquan, Vice President of Chery International, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chery Automobiles Rus, spoke about this in an interview with Vedomosti. With the greatest probability, cars of the parent brand Chery will be produced in Russia, he explained.

So far, according to the top manager, the issue with the production of Chery cars in Russia has not been fully resolved. He notes that, in general, local assembly is economically feasible with sales of at least 50,000 vehicles per year in the country. In the first half of 2023, 46,970 Chery cars were sold in Russia, excluding sub-brands. This is more than 4 times more than in the same period of 2022, and 22% more than for the whole of last year, according to the data of the Association of European Businesses (AEB).
