Chinese envoy calls for improving global human rights governance

China’s envoy at the UN Human Rights Council urged global cooperation on human rights governance, outlining four principles and emphasizing the role of the Global Governance Initiative in shaping equitable systems.

China’s Four-Point Framework for Global Human Rights Governance

At the 63rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, China’s permanent representative Jia Guide presented a joint statement titled Improving International Human Rights Governance, outlining four core principles to guide global human rights efforts. The proposals, backed by 71 countries, emphasized a people-centered approach, sovereign equality, fairness and justice, and adherence to international law. Chinaview reported that Jia stressed the need to stay true to the original purpose of human rights governance while addressing the profound changes in the international landscape.

The statement called for prioritizing the voices of the Global South and rejecting the politicization of human rights. We oppose the politicization and instrumentalization of human rights, take a holistic approach to all categories of human rights, and support multilateral human rights institutions, Jia said. This framework aligns with the Global Governance Initiative, proposed by President Xi Jinping in September 2025, which has garnered support from numerous nations and international organizations.
