ByteDance has announced new rules for users under the age of 14. From now on, children in China are allowed to use the Chinese version of the TikTok (Douyin) app for no more than 40 minutes a day. In addition, children will only be able to access the app between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. local time. The company also strongly encouraged parents to help their children go through the account verification process using their real first and last name.

Last month, China’s National Printing and Publishing Authority issued new rules for technology companies and minors to limit the amount of time children and teenagers can play online games. Under the new rules, people under the age of 18 can play online games for no more than one hour on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays. At the same time, it will be possible to play strictly according to the schedule – from 20:00 to 21:00 local time.
