Chinese brand Dongfeng has launched an affordable Nammi Box electric model on the European market, which has launched in Switzerland at a price of 21,990 Swiss francs (23,020 euros). The car will debut in Norway for just 16,000 euros with eco-bonuses included.
This urban hatchback is positioned as a rival to the Citroen e-C3, currently one of the cheapest electric cars in Europe.
The 4-meter-long model is powered by a 94 hp electric motor, equipped with a 42.3 kWh battery and has a WLTP range of 310 km. By comparison, the e-C3 has a range of 320 km, 44 kWh batteries and a 113 hp engine.
The interior of the Nammi Box comes with a 12-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard. There is also a 5-inch digital instrument cluster.
Details of the car’s launch in other European markets have not yet been revealed, but the Chinese state-owned carmaker is currently in talks with the Italian government to build a factory for more than 100,000 cars a year. This will allow it to avoid new tariffs imposed by the EU on imports of Chinese electric vehicles.
