Alice Guo (35, female), a Chinese national who pretended to be Filipino and took over as mayor of a small city in the Philippines, has been accused of being a ‘Chinese spy’ and has secretly fled overseas.

According to foreign news agencies such as The Straits Times and Reuters on the 21st (local time), the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) of the Philippines announced that Alice Kwok, former mayor of Bamban City in Tarlac Province, Luzon Island, northern Philippines, traveled from Indonesia to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 18th of last month. It is not known when he left the Philippines.

Alice Guo, who was staying in Kuala Lumpur, moved to Singapore on the 21st of the same month. She then took a ferry from Singapore to Batam, Indonesia on the 18th of this month.

PAOCC explained that it confirmed these movements based on the entry and exit records of these countries.

Alice Guo is suspected of money laundering and human trafficking in connection with the notorious Chinese online gambling ring “POGO” in the Philippines. POGO is an online casino operated from the Philippines targeting customers from mainland China, where gambling is illegal.

Alice Guo is also suspected of entering the Philippines as a Chinese national named Guo Huaping when she was a teenager and then laundering her identity as a Filipino. She has been under investigation by the Philippine Senate since May in relation to this suspicion.

However, after repeatedly failing to appear before the Senate, Philippine authorities issued an arrest warrant and removed Alice Kwok from her position as mayor, citing “serious misconduct.”

After he fled abroad, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized that he would investigate the circumstances of his departure and identify those responsible. The presidential office ordered Alice Kwok’s passport to be canceled.
