Chinese study: Moon soil has the ability to generate oxygen and fuel

by time news

Chinese scientists have discovered that the soil on the moon has a potential to generate oxygen and fuel, which indicates more possibilities for the use of lunar resources to enhance human exploration on the moon.
According to a Chinese study, researchers from Nanjing University showed that the moon samples brought to Earth by the Changah-5 probe contain active compounds rich in iron and titanium, and can play as a catalyst for the production of oxygen using sunlight and carbon dioxide.
The researchers hope to design a system that takes advantage of lunar soil and sunlight, and use it in the life support system for the astronauts, since with this method, there is no need to use external energy except sunlight to generate oxygen and fuel to support life at the lunar base.
