Chennai Open ATP Challenger Men’s Tennis Championship organized by Tamil Nadu Tennis Association and supported by Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority at STAD, Nungambakkam. It started yesterday at the stadium. This competition for a total prize money of Rs. 1.06 crore is going on till 19th. Players from 20 countries have participated in this.

In the first round of singles, Chinese Taipei’s Sun Chin Cheng, who is ranked 132nd in the world, defeated Croatia’s Nino Cerdarusic 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) in straight sets and advanced to the 2nd round. In another match, South Korea’s Cheong San Hong defeated Austria’s Sebastian Abner in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

The Frenchman wins

In another match, French player Arthur Cajas defeated Vietnam’s Nam Hong Li 6-3, 6-2 to enter the second round. Similarly, American player Nicolas Moreno de Alboran eliminated Portugal’s Frederico Pereira Silva in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Japan’s Yasutaka Shiyama edged Australia’s Mark Poleman in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

Earlier in the morning, Mukund Sasikumar recovered from a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 deficit to beat China Taipei’s Jason Jung to advance to the main round. Another Indian, Sumit Nagal, reached the main round by defeating South Korea’s Jisung Nam in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Another Indian, Digvijay Pratap Singh, lost his main-round berth to Australia’s James McCabe in straight sets 2-6, 6-7 (2-7).
