Thiruvananthapuram: Youth Congress has filed a complaint against Youth Commission Chairperson Chinta Jerome in the Lokayukta. Youth Congress state general secretary Binu Chulli has filed a complaint alleging that Chinta Jerome is playing politics while heading a judicial commission which is supposed to function impartially.

The complaint points out that it is illegal for Chinta, who holds a judicial position, to participate in party events. The Lokayukta may consider the complaint on Monday.

According to the 10th section of the commission, the government has assigned extensive civil duties and powers to the youth commission. The Commission has all the powers of a civil court trying a suit under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 (Central Act 5 of 1908) while performing its functions under section 9. The commission has the power to summon a person on a complaint, to ensure attendance, to examine a statement of truth, to find documents, to demand their production, to receive evidence, to demand from any court, any public document or its copy, and to examine witnesses. The allegation in the complaint is that political parties participate in programs when they have all these powers.
