Visual Capitalist has published interesting data regarding the distribution of revenue in the chip industry for 2023, based on research by Omdia. This ranking demonstrates the share of the major chip companies in the market, with Intel continuing to lead the sector with revenues of more than 50 billion dollars, accounting for approximately 10% of all revenues in the industry.

However, all is not rosy at Intel, which is suffering a sharp drop in its share price after revealing billions in losses at its troubled business. On the other hand, Nvidia is coming close to overtaking Intel with revenues of $49 billion for 2023, almost double its revenues in 2022, and thanks to this its revenue rate in the industry has risen to 9%.

The chip market is still considered very profitable, with many companies showing revenue growth. However, 12 of the top 20 companies in the industry failed to achieve as high revenues as in 2022, including big names such as Intel, Samsung and AMD.

The division into different types of chips is varied: microprocessors, memory chips, standard chips and complex systems on a chip. More recently, Nvidia has begun to focus on microprocessors for analytics and machine learning, an area where most of the growth in the industry is seen.

The trend of the expansion of chips into every field of life continues to drive the revenues of the companies specializing in their design, when the chip market is considered one of the most prominent and profitable markets in the world of technology today.
