The report published by the Presidency of the Republic reveals that the pumping lines 4, 5 and 6which supply the metropolitan region of Montevideo and Canelones (containing more than half of the national population of Uruguay), present significant concentrations of chloride and sodium.
In pumping line 4, there have been 707 milligrams of chloride per liter of waterwhile pumping line 5 has shown 719 milligrams of chloride per liter of water. For its part, pumping line 6 has presented 703 milligrams of chloride per liter of water.
Sodium levels in OSE water
Likewise, these pumping lines have detected worrisome sodium levels. In pumping line 4, there were 425 milligrams of sodium per liter of waterin line 5 were detected 431 milligrams of sodium per liter of water, and line 6 have measured 423 milligrams of sodium per liter of water.
According to current standards, the maximum values allowed are 720 milligrams of chloride per liter of water and 440 milligrams of sodium per liter of water. This indicates that, despite the high concentrations detected, the water supplied by OSE complies with the values authorized up to now.
In the last few hours, water consumption in Montevideo and its metropolitan area has reached the figure of 520,493 cubic meters. These levels of massive consumption exert greater pressure on existing water resources, aggravating the scarcity situation. In this context, the reservation of Severine Passwhich supplies the region, is at its historical minimum with only 2,046,133 cubic meters of water available. In addition, the flow of Paso Severino is located at approximately 67.000.000 of cubic meters.
