Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Sang-mok will leave Korea on the 16th to attend the Korea-U.S.-Japan Finance Ministers’ Meeting, the G20 Finance Ministers’ Meeting, and the World Bank’s Development Committee meeting to be held in Washington, D.C. from the 17th to the 19th.

According to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance on this day, Deputy Prime Minister Choi will attend the meeting of the finance ministers of Korea, the United States and Japan, which was agreed to be held at the Korea-U.S.-Japan summit last year, on the 17th, the first day of the schedule.

In addition, at the Ukraine support meeting, President Yoon Seok-yeol plans to reveal follow-up measures for the $2.3 billion Ukraine support package pledged at the summit last September.

Subsequently, in the first session of the G20 Finance Ministers’ Meeting, proposals will be made on the need to strengthen cooperation with various entities, including the private sector, to achieve the goal of ‘carbon neutrality and fair transition’.

At the second session of the Finance Ministers’ Meeting on the 18th, the government plans to make leading remarks and present ways to improve the international financial system for sustainable growth, including the reform of multilateral development banks in response to the new international financial environment.

On the 19th, the last day, Deputy Prime Minister Choi will attend the WB Development Committee meeting and discuss the implementation plan for the WB development plan prepared by WB in Marrakech, Morocco in October last year.

By attending the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Choi plans to hold meetings with finance ministers from each country. On the 16th, he met with Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki to discuss cooperation between the Korean and Japanese financial authorities, while on the 19th, he met with Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko to discuss ‘Korea-Ukraine external economic cooperation’ to lay a legal foundation for mid- to long-term package support for Ukraine. We plan to conclude a basic agreement for the fund (EDCF).

In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Choi is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the president of international financial organizations such as the World Bank (WB) and the International Development Bank (IDB), and on the 19th, he will meet with the president of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to discuss the Korea Poverty Reduction and Growth Fund (PRGT). On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Choi met with Roberto Siphon-Arevalo, Global Head of Sovereign Credit Ratings at Standard & Poor’s (S&P), a global credit rating agency, and explained Korea’s economic situation and policy directions for this year, making efforts to maintain the external credibility of our economy.
