Choi Seong-yong (72), president of the Korea Weightlifting Federation, will lead Korean weightlifting for another four years.

Chairman Choi Seong-yong was elected by defeating former Korea Weightlifting Federation Vice President Park Sang-in in the 46th Korean Weightlifting Federation Presidential election held at the Olympic Hall in Songpa-gu, Seoul on the 30th.

The new term will begin in January next year, and Chairman Choi will serve as the head of the federation until January 2029.

Chairman Choi is a former weightlifter and served as the national team coach at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

Afterwards, he became the 42nd head in 2014 and led the federation from February 2014 to January 2016, and served as the 44th president in 2019 and the 45th president in 2021.

He also serves as president of the East Asian Weightlifting Federation and vice president of the Asian Weightlifting Federation.

After being elected, Chairman Choi expressed his thoughts, saying, “I will continue to do my best to win a gold medal at the 2028 LA Olympics, revitalize the national team, and foster promising players.”
