Choi requests “support for corporate activities through legislation”

People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon and Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung met with Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Choi Tae-won (SK Group Chairman, pictured) on the 5th and announced, “We will promote the semiconductor special law and the artificial intelligence (AI) basic law.” Chairman Choi requested, “Please support corporate activities through legislation in the National Assembly.”

On this day, Chairman Choi visited the National Assembly to mark the opening of the regular session and met with the leaders of the four ruling and opposition parties: the People Power Party, the Democratic Party, the Fatherland Innovation Party, and the New Reform Party.

At a meeting with Chairman Choi, Representative Han said, “I will play a role in helping businesspeople express their creativity and succeed in the world,” and added, “I believe that bipartisan support, such as the Semiconductor Special Act, is essential for industries that determine the fate of the country, such as semiconductors.”

In response, Chairman Choi said, “The national competition surrounding cutting-edge industries is quite intense, and energy and carbon neutrality issues are also coming up,” and added, “If the National Assembly also lends its support, we will become a stronger team and, like Olympic athletes, we will be able to win medals in national competitions.”

Representative Lee, who met with Chairman Choi, said, “I met with Representative Han not long ago and talked about studying and promoting support measures for AI and the semiconductor industry, which are the core of our industry,” and added, “We will try to open that path as quickly as possible.” In response, Chairman Choi said, “I ask that you continue to support us with many bills that will be helpful for corporate activities.”

The Semiconductor Special Act contains support measures for the protection and development of semiconductor companies, and the AI Basic Act contains contents such as the establishment of a basic plan for AI business. The business community is demanding that both bills be passed urgently. They were also proposed in the 21st National Assembly, but were scrapped due to the expiration of the term.
