A collective reaction that questions. The Elite basketball championship match between Cholet and Strasbourg this Tuesday evening was very lively in the stands. Not just the encouragement from the supporters who saw their team lose.

But because part of a group of 57 students from the Rural Family House (MFR) La Riffaudière in Doué-la-Fontaine (Maine-et-Loire) had to be rescued, around 10:30 p.m., as reported by our colleagues from Western Mail. In fact, several students had to be taken care of by the room’s security teams, but also the firefighters and the Samu.

“Nine of our students were hospitalized in structures in Angers and Cholet,” confirms Jérôme Hurel, director of the MFR, contacted by Le Parisien. At the Meilleraie park in Cholet, emergency services, mobilized in large numbers (28 firefighters) were requested following discomfort, vomiting and stomach aches of around ten students aged 14 to 17 years old.

A possible collective anxiety attack according to doctors

If food poisoning is one of the hypotheses, it is not currently the main avenue. “The first girl who complained of stomach aches and said she vomited didn’t eat the picnic we had prepared. Conversely, some ate their friend’s sandwiches in addition to their own and had no symptoms,” continues the direct, reached by telephone.

This young girl was the last to leave the hospital this Wednesday morning. “All the students are now doing very well. The emergency room doctors with whom I spoke mentioned the possibility of a collective anxiety attack rather than food poisoning. We were at the very top of the stands, it was very hot,” continues Jérôme Hurel.

However, as a precaution, the MFR plans to have the control meal that was preserved analyzed.
