Choo Shin-soo, who retired from SSG Landers, will take on the role of assisting club owner Shinsegae Group Chairman Chung Yong-jin starting next year.

On the 27th, the SSG club officially announced, “Choo Shin-soo has been appointed as assistant to the club owner and general manager of training.”

Choo Shin-soo, who ended his career in Major League Baseball (MLB) and played for SSG for four seasons starting in 2021, ended his 25-year professional career with the end of this year.

Choo Shin-soo’s career performance in the KBO League is a batting average of 0.263, 54 home runs, 205 RBI, and OPS (on-base percentage + slugging percentage) of 0.812.

Choo Shin-soo, who announced his retirement after the end of the 2024 season, has been thinking about his future.

Choo Shin-soo, who denied the ‘SSG manager theory’ that was circulating in the baseball world at the time of his retirement press conference, considered moving to the United States, but decided to remain with the team next year after being persuaded by the club.

Afterwards, the club appointed Choo Shin-soo as assistant to the owner. Choo Shin-soo decided not to receive compensation related to his position.

An SSG official explained, “We highly valued Choo Shin-soo’s altruistic attitude, such as giving sincere advice to the players and front office,” and added, “We judged that he could contribute to strengthening the team’s power, especially since he has a diverse human network including MLB clubs.”

Assistant Choo Shin-soo said, “I am grateful to the club for entrusting me with the important responsibility of assisting the owner and overseeing development. “I am excited to be able to work as a member of SSG again as the first title in the KBO League,” he said, adding, “I will act as a bridge between the 1st and 2nd teams while also actively expressing my opinions on the club’s player management.”
