Grammy-winning U.S. singer Chris Brown pleaded guilty on Friday at London’s Southwark Crown Court to a charge of affray following a 2023 nightclub altercation in Mayfair, avoiding a trial on more serious assault charges and securing bail ahead of an October sentencing.

Alongside his co-defendant and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, the artist admitted to a public order offense stemming from the February 19, 2023, incident at the Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district. In exchange for the guilty plea to affray, prosecutors dropped more severe charges, including attempted grievous bodily harm, actual bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon.

The charges trace back to an altercation involving music producer Abraham Diaw inside the crowded private members’ club. Akinlolu subsequently joined in, punching the victim while Diaw was on the floor.
