Chris Töpperwien is one of the most famous stars of “Goodbye Germany”. The now 50-year-old became a part of the Vox show in 2012, when the broadcaster joined him on his emigration. He started his food truck business in Los Angeles, earning him the nickname “The Currywurst Man”.
Töpperwien and his wife Nicole now run a bakery in Los Angeles called “Schatzi’s Bakery & Café”.
Allegations against Töpperwien have recently become public. “Bild” reported that this was related to incidents that are said to have occurred in an Austrian trading company in 2021. Now the trial against Töpperwien begins.

When Chris Töpperwien worked for the Austrian Grill Heaven GmbH in Vienna, he learned, according to “Bild” he also met his wife Nicole. The two now have a son and have built a life together in California.

A press release said: “While trying to enter Germany for a TV production, US migrant Chris Töpperwien’s fists clicked at Munich airport at the beginning of May.” And further: “He was taken into custody by the federal police because of an existing European arrest warrant.”
He was reported by his former employer in Austria because he allegedly made private payments with the company card and used funds for private purposes as a result. The migrant spent a total of twelve days behind bars until he was extradited to Austria.
Chris Töpperwien talks about pre-trial allegations
In an interview with RTL Töpperwien said shortly before the trial began: “I find these allegations unbelievable and appalling.” From the beginning, he had no question of traveling to Austria for the trial and “very much against any accusations,” he said.
Töpperwien added: “I discussed the case extensively with my defense attorney before I was released and before the Austrian judge.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming date, the TV star explained: “Of course, such an upcoming process is not easy.” He emphasized the following: “Fortunately, I have the necessary support in these difficult times from my family, who live in Vienna, from a friend who came from Germany especially to support me, and last but not least from my defense attorney and a few friends. “
If convicted, Töpperwien could face up to three years in prison or a fine.
