Oscar winner Christian Bale (best supporting actor in 2011 for «The Fighter») celebrates his 50th birthday today. He was born in Haverfordwest, Wales, on 30 January 1974, the son of animal rights activist David Bale (who married feminist activist Gloria Steinem in 2000) and circus performer Jenny James. He spent his childhood traveling to different countries, from the United Kingdom to Portugal to California. At 16, after dropping out of school, he moved to the United States.
