Christians from different professions, in various parts of the world, now have to face the risk of being forced to provide services that go against what the Bible teaches. An example of this is the case of judge Dianne Hensley, from the State of Texas, United States.

Dianne is a justice of the peace in Texas, and as such one of her duties is to perform weddings. However, when the United States legalized same-sex unions in 2015, she chose to abandon this role, deciding not to perform any type of marriage ceremony.

The following year, however, based on the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act, approved since 1999, which seeks to prevent the government from imposing any type of prejudice against the free exercise of citizens’ religious faith, she decided to resume her activities.

In 2019, then, having decided not to celebrate gay marriage for reasons of religious conscience, judge Dianne drew up a list containing the names of places and other judges who could celebrate these ceremonies, so that the local community, within her jurisdiction, could could have alternatives.

Punishment

Despite taking the initiative to offer alternatives to the community, the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct ended up punishing the Christian judge with a sanction, alleging that she was committing discrimination and failing to fulfill her oath.

Instead of appealing the punishment, now, second told CBN News, Dianne decided to sue the State of Texas, taking her case to the Supreme Court. According to Hiram Sasser. lawyer at the First Liberty Institute, a law firm that defends religious freedom, the judge’s intention was the best possible.

“His way of reconciling his religious beliefs while meeting the needs of his community is not only cool, but should be a model for public officials across Texas.” said Hiram.

Dianne’s goal now is to win at the Supreme Court, so that her case becomes jurisprudence, and can be used as a defense tool in future accusations. “I would love to win, because I think it’s right,” she says.
