The speech by Christine Razanamahasoa, president of the National Assembly, during the opening ceremony of the second ordinary session of parliament, raised an outcry among IRD parliamentarians in Tsimbazaza.

If some deputies left the hemicycle during the speech yesterday morning, late in the evening, the IRD deputies and some independents made a statement to the press to condemn and protest against Christine Razanamahasoa’s speech. According to these parliamentarians from the camp of the outgoing president, Andry Rajoelina, the speech of the President of the National Assembly is not representative of the majority deputies, nor of the National Assembly. The speech was not discussed with other parliamentarians and only concerns Christine Razanamahasoa herself, these deputies say.

These pro-power deputies accuse the President of the National Assembly of sowing confusion and disrupting the electoral process to achieve a transition. These parliamentarians recalled that Christine Razanamahasoa was elected under the colors of the IRD, and that in this sense, she deviates from the line of conduct of her original party.
