Christmas festival in the Zócalo starts on December 17

The head of CDMX Government, Clara Brugadaannounced that in the Plinth will be celebrated Christmas with concerts, piñatas, pastorelas and the largest Niño Dios in the world; In addition, the festivities will extend to the 16 districts to bring the festivities to the entire city.

“Today we begin with one more task in the Zócalo and throughout Mexico City, which are the public spaces transformed to receive millions of people looking for a place to live together and have a good time during these December holidays,” explained Brugada.

The activities in the capital’s Zócalo, explained the head of Government, will begin on Tuesday the 17th with the lighting of the decorative lighting in the Plaza de la Constitución and the inauguration of the Christmas festival and will conclude on December 30.

Among the announced activities, the participation of 56 musical groups from a wide variety of genres is planned, such as Regina Orozco, Los Tecolines and Los Cadetes de Linares. Likewise, there will be international guests such as Los Espíritus, from Argentina; La Perla, from Colombia; and Los Mirlos, from Peru.

Also, a Christmas candle and three light tunnels with artificial snow will be installed to offer the perfect setting for taking photographs.

As part of the decoration, Brugada said that a seven-meter-high piñata and many others of smaller size will be placed; a nativity scene, monumental figures and trees, and even the presence of the world’s greatest Child God.

Activities in the municipalities

Along with these activities to dance and enjoy in the Zócalo, the capital’s president indicated that one objective is to decentralize the December holidays by taking them to all districts with activities that will be available from December 20 to January 5.

For the celebrations in the demarcations, 16 ice rinks will be installed, whose admission will be free, along with artist presentations and different cultural activities.

The ice rinks will be located in Álvaro Obregón in Japan Park; Azcapotzalco in Tezozomoc Park; Benito Juarez in Parque Las Americas; in Gustavo A. Madero in Deportivo Carmen Serdán; Cuauhtémoc in Lázaro Cárdenas Park; in Cuajimalpa in Deportivo Morelos; Coyoacán in the Pilares “El Parína”; Iztacalco, at Gate 9 of the Sports City.

In Iztapalapa in the Meyehualco Utopia; Magdalena Contreras in the Lienzo Charro San Nicolás; Milpa Alta in Deportivo Popular Tecómitl; Miguel Hidalgo in Alameda Tacubaya; Tláhuac in Parque de Los Músicos; Tlalpan in Deportivo Independencia; Venustiano Carranza at Deportivo Eduardo Molino; and Xochimilco in Deportivo Xochimilco.

The local Secretary of Tourism, Alejandra Frausto, indicated that from December 19 to January 8, 62% hotel occupancy is expected with the arrival of 820,400 tourists; while in economic terms, he highlighted that it is estimated at 7,420 million pesos, 2% more than the previous year.
