Inflation does not spare Christmas gifts, whose production and transport costs are increasing. Parents consider giving fewer gifts.

Christmas toy prices are expected to rise by an average of 6% in 2022. Some parents are considering giving fewer gifts, due to inflation. “Don’t reduce too much either because it’s a magical moment, we mustn’t lose the spirit of the holidays for the children”, assures a woman. The toys whose prices are expected to increase the most are electronic games or those involving paper.

In addition to the increase in the price of raw materials, the cost of transportation is also rising. “All these increases have forced manufacturers to increase their toy prices”, explains Franck Mathais, spokesperson for JouéClub. Signs indicate that they will lower their margins on toys. A grandmother is already planning to buy her gifts during the November promotions. In 2021, the average budget for Christmas gifts was 131 euros per child.
