OTT Platforms are an attempt to continue the growth achieved among moviegoers during the Kovid era. Previously the major releases of the festival seasons were in theaters but now they are in ODT and theaters. Major releases are coming through this Christmas as Kovid is the festive season coming after the second wave. Six major films, including three direct releases, will hit the major over-the-top platforms this Christmas and New Year.
Tovino Thomas is the first Malayalam superhero film to be directed by Minnal Murali with Dileep in the lead role and Nadhirshah in the lead role. Madhuram starring Joju George is the Malayalam direct OTD release of this festival season. In this, Minnal Murali is on Netflix on December 24th and Keshu is on Nathan Disney Plus Hotstar at home on December 31st and sweet on Sony Liv. Sony Live has not yet announced a release date for the sweets.
Along with the direct OTT releases, all three superstar after-theater releases are coming to OTD. Mohanlal’s cosmic film Marakkar (Marakkar), Dulquer Salmaan (Kurup) with Sukumara Kurup, Suresh Gopi with Suresh Gopi and Kaaval with action hero premieres. In this, Marakkar and Kurup arrive on two platforms but on the same day. The OTD release date of both the films is December 17th. Marakkar is on Amazon Prime Video and Kurup on Netflix. The watch also arrives via Netflix. The release date is December 27th.
