In a match with a fast pace and with chances, in which both went for everything without giving up anything, from the first minutes we saw a serious, confident, well-positioned Valencia CF that went from less to more, competing well against a Villarreal CF that arrived at the event on a roll, after stringing together several positive results in LALIGA EA Sports.

Around the quarter of an hour into the game, the local team had a triple chance in which Mamardashvili appeared with solvency, as usual, to save Valencia CF’s aspirations at the La Cerámica Stadium. Our team would not take long to respond and would do so with a very clear chance, the best of the first half, in the boots of Hugo Duro.

After a good combination between Javi Guerra and Sergi Canós, the striker hung the ball with the intention of beating Jörgensen over the top and his shot went just wide when the 484 Valencian fans in the visitor’s stands almost chanted 0-1. Valencia CF did not give up, and they would continue trying through Sergi Canós, who finished into the hands of the rival goalkeeper after a good pass from Gayà on the left.

In the 35th minute, the referee awarded a penalty in favor of the local team in a play in which Valencia CF, in addition to the maximum penalty, would lose Gayà due to muscle ailments. When the match seemed to get most difficult, however, Mamardashvili appeared. The goalkeeper, the most outstanding player of the match, was once again decisive, stopping the penalty with a strong hand down after Álex Baena’s shot.

With the score at 0-0, the game would reach half-time and after passing through the locker room, Peter Federico, who had just entered the field, would try with a shot looking for the long post that required Jörgensen’s best reflexes. Villarreal CF’s response would be instantaneous, but they would meet again with Mamardashvili, who made two more worthy saves.

However, in the 54th minute, the home team managed to score the 1-0 by finishing off a rebound that was left to Jorge Cuenca after a corner kick. Valencia CF’s reaction was good in a section in which the match was completely broken and in which a little success could balance the score again.

After the hour mark, Jörgensen would appear again with a quick reaction to stop Cenk’s shot from a corner. If Mamardashvili was right, the rival goalkeeper would be no different. The team, which deserved more than a defeat during its time at La Cerámica, continued trying with confidence until the final whistle, but the scoreboard would not move again.

In the final minutes, after a long absence, the game left at least one good news: the return of André Almeida.
