Bangkok, August 27, 2023: The Chulabhorn Royal Academy launched a campaign to raise awareness of women’s internal diseases because issues relating to women’s internal health are complex and should not be overlooked. Every problem can lead to loss and take the lives of loved ones. The team of doctors from the Women’s Health Center at Chulabhorn Hospital provided health promotion services related to gynecological diseases and announced various medical services of the Women’s Health Center at the “ICONIC WOMEN’S HEALTH” health fair. Associate Professor Dr. Surasak Leelaudomlipi, Director of Chulabhorn Hospital, presided over the opening ceremony, joined by Assistant Professor Dr. Natthawut Kantthaworn, Head of the Women’s Health Center at Chulabhorn Hospital, and Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj, along with a specialized obstetrics and gynecology team from the Women’s Health Center, who participated in a seminar to provide knowledge about women’s internal diseases covering all aspects and updating the center’s innovative care and treatment services. The event also included activities for checking and educating about women’s internal health at no cost, held on August 27-28, 2023, on the first floor of Chulabhorn Hospital, which has 400 beds.

Associate Professor Dr. Surasak Leelaudomlipi, Director of Chulabhorn Hospital, stated, “The Women’s Health Center at Chulabhorn Hospital is one of the specialized centers that provide diagnostic and treatment services along with health promotion against gynecological diseases and gynecological cancers for the public, as well as promoting clinical research. The center was established from the ‘New Cervical Cancer Prevention and Monitoring Project,’ a charitable project in honor of the birthday anniversary of Professor Dr. Chulabhorn Walailak, Princess of the Royal Family, in 2011, to research the causes of cervical cancer in Thai women. The project attracted 4,450 participants, revealing that 15.1% tested positive for HPV, the cause of cervical cancer. Therefore, Chulabhorn Hospital recognized the importance of raising awareness about the HPV virus to push for the policy to eliminate cervical cancer in Thailand consistently. Subsequently, the gynecological service unit at Chulabhorn Hospital expanded its services from just cancer patients in the project to the general public and established the ‘Women’s Health Center’ in 2015 to fulfill the vision to make ‘Chulabhorn Hospital a general hospital’ and expand its services to cover a broader range of gynecological diseases. The Women’s Health Center is one of the model specialized centers of Chulabhorn Hospital aimed at integrating expertise for proactive women’s health care and providing diagnostic and treatment services for gynecological diseases and gynecological cancers while focusing on developing health service innovations that utilize modern treatment technologies, such as minimally invasive gynecological surgery, sentinel node injection for targeted cervical and uterine cancer treatment, comprehensive prenatal care, and fertility treatments using reproductive technology. Currently, there is a multidisciplinary team of specialized obstetrics and gynecology professionals available to provide comprehensive women’s health care throughout all stages of life at Chulabhorn Hospital’s 400-bed facility.

The ICONIC WOMEN’S HEALTH health fair aimed to present the potential progress of services and outstanding innovations in diagnosing and treating gynecological diseases under the operation of the Women’s Health Center at Chulabhorn Hospital. It has now gathered a team of multidisciplinary specialized obstetrics and gynecology physicians to prepare for being a specialized center that provides comprehensive sexual health care and addresses women’s issues throughout all ages, including in-depth diagnostic and treatment services for gynecological diseases, or diseases related to the female reproductive system, which include conditions occurring in the female genitalia, uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and vagina. These diseases can significantly affect women’s physical health, mental well-being, and quality of daily life. Common gynecological diseases found in women include endometriosis, chocolate cysts, ovarian cysts, uterine fibroids, vaginitis, irregular menstruation, and gynecological cancers. Additionally, the center emphasizes the importance of promoting accurate awareness regarding the prevention of gynecological cancers so that Thai women from all sectors are informed and can correctly protect themselves. The services also cover care and consultations for women with pelvic organ prolapse issues, such as uterine prolapse, vaginal prolapse, frequent urination, urinary incontinence, or difficulties urinating, in-depth prenatal care, and pregnancy planning for cancer patients, as well as providing treatment for infertility using reproductive technology, among others. Furthermore, the Women’s Health Center at Chulabhorn Hospital is fully prepared to employ advanced health service innovations to ensure equal access to quality care standards. For instance, utilizing 4K imaging technology in minimally invasive gynecological surgery enhances surgical capabilities, allowing physicians to see lesions clearly and detect small lesions, resulting in favorable surgical outcomes, alongside advancing minimally invasive gynecological surgery technology by implementing the da Vinci Xi robotic surgical technology for treating gynecological diseases such as fibroids or uterine cancer and ovarian tumors while addressing pelvic organ prolapse effectively. The robotic system serves as an extension of the surgeon’s arms, allowing for surgery in complicated or hard-to-reach areas.

During the event, a seminar was held to announce advancements and provide knowledge on “Comprehensive Women’s Internal Health Issues and Updates on Iconic Care and Treatment Innovations” from a specialized team of doctors at the Women’s Health Center, covering topics such as understanding “Women’s Internal Diseases” and what symptoms may tell us. There will be discussions surrounding common conditions like “Uterine Fibroids” and whether they should be kept or surgically removed using the iconic technology of minimally invasive gynecological surgery and robotic-assisted surgery, as well as campaigns to educate about “Gynecological Cancer,” knowing how to prevent HPV, which is a classic icon against women’s internal cancers. There will also be discussions on the importance of “3D and 4D Pregnancy Ultrasound” for the future well-being of babies and innovations for women facing infertility with reproductive technology assistance. In addition to the medical team, special guest iconic women, such as Dr. Jeab-Lalina Kongthoranin and actresses from Channel 3, including Whip Cream-Disrinyakorn Disakul and Creamy-Ploypat Isarapongporn from the series “The World Spins Around Her,” will participate in discussions promoting annual internal check-ups for women to reduce risks of severe diseases and raise awareness about the HPV virus, the leading cause of cervical cancer, while sharing experiences on health maintenance to embody women who shine from within. Hosted by Dr. Kong-Sarawich Suboon and Dr. Eang-Katanayuta Nakpalad, on the second day of the event (August 28, 2023), three more topics will be discussed: Modern Women Ready to Tackle “Menopausal” Issues, Understanding “Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Urinary Incontinence in Women,” and Creating Healthy Women from Within to Outside. Throughout both days of the event, an exhibition zone named “ICONIC WOMEN’S HEALTH” and activity booths will be set up to allow the public to exchange knowledge about women’s internal diseases, as well as showcasing the innovative technology used in minimally invasive gynecological surgery. Services for checking and educating women’s internal health will be provided for participants, such as internal examinations and gynecological ultrasound for those at risk, HPV Self Sampling screening for cervical cancer for Thai women aged 30-59, gynecological disease consultation, and infertility treatment planning, among others.
