Chungcheongbuk-do Boeun Youth Village announced on the 22nd that it will open a pop-up store (restaurant) called ‘Route 25’ selling pulled pork burgers at Rider Kindergarten in Hoein-myeon, Boeun-gun on the 25th.
Route 25 is an event run by participants in the local living program of the Boeun Youth Village ‘Rider Town Hoeinhai (ㅎㅇ)’ as part of the 2024 Youth Village Support Project hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. It is also an event where you can get a glimpse of the ideas of young people who are trying to settle in the area.
Pulled pork is unfamiliar in Korea, but it is considered a traditional dish to Americans. It is known to be made by smoking chunks of meat over low heat. It can be understood as a dish in which long strips of pork barbecue are made. It is characterized by a crispy outside and soft inside texture, and in the US, it is mainly used as a topping for burgers, pizzas, and sandwiches. It is said that cooking methods using pulled pork have recently attracted a lot of attention in Korea. In Korea, it tastes different, but its appearance is similar to jangjorim meat.
Boeun Youth Village has been operating the Rider Kindergarten Entrepreneurship Class since the 1st of this month. The first group of participants in the ‘Local Living and Food & Beverage (F&B) Entrepreneurship Education Program’ planned the menu and branded it for three weeks to present this pop-up restaurant, Route 25. Route 25’s main menu item is the ‘Pulled Pork Burger’, which combines pulled pork and fresh ingredients. The goal is to provide a special gourmet experience and enjoyment to the local community, focusing on local residents and riders and other visitors on the opening day. In particular, the proceeds from the sales of products from the pop-up operation will be donated to Hoein-myeon, Boeun-gun.
An official from Boeun Youth Village said, “Route 25 will be a meaningful time where cooperation with the local community, support for youth entrepreneurship, and the value of sharing are in harmony,” and “The planning process of the participants in the Rider Kindergarten entrepreneurship class can be seen in detail on the Boeun Youth Village Rider Town Hoein High and Route 25 social media channels.”
