Chungju City has achieved the feat of being selected for national projects for advanced materials one after another. Chungju City is further solidifying its status as a new industrial city in the central inland region.

Last May, Chungju City was selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s Advanced Precision Chemical Materials Performance Enhancement Infrastructure Construction Project, and was also finally selected for the ‘Digital-based Advanced Materials Development Support Infrastructure Construction’ project.

The city has thus achieved the feat of being selected for two material-related infrastructure construction projects this year alone.

The materials industry is a supporting industry that serves as the foundation for the city’s key industries of hydrogen, bio, secondary batteries, and mobility. In particular, as technology advances, demand for point adhesive materials, which are key materials for advanced forward-looking industries, is increasing in various fields for lightweighting and high functionality of final products.

This project will cost a total of KRW 21.3 billion, including KRW 10 billion in national funds and KRW 11.3 billion in local funds, and will be built on the site of the Chungcheong Campus of the Advanced Technology Research Institute in the corporate city.

The city aims to establish a system for designing, manufacturing, analyzing, and testing point adhesive materials and to support the development of point adhesive materials to be used in various industries such as batteries, displays, automobiles, and medical devices, thereby eliminating the technology gap with leading countries and strengthening corporate competitiveness through localization of technology.

To this end, a consortium was formed with Chungcheongbuk-do, Chungcheong Campus of the Advanced Institute of Technology, Korea Transport University, and Korea Materials Convergence Research Institute to promote this project.

In particular, it is expected to help strengthen the technological competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises by shortening the product development period and optimizing production and minimizing defect rates through integration with digital transformation technology, which has recently been in the spotlight.

The Chungcheong Campus of the Advanced Institute of Technology, the main organization, is in charge of overall project management including equipment construction, the Korea Materials Convergence Research Institute is in charge of building a database and providing technical guidance, and the Korea National University of Transport is in charge of corporate support and equipment utilization using corporate networks.

Mayor Cho Gil-hyung of Chungju City said, “The efforts of Assemblyman Lee Jong-bae, who showed great interest in this project and supported it, were a great help in its selection as a public offering project,” and added, “We will continue to work hard to secure new industrial power in Chungju City and strengthen regional competitiveness through corporate support.”

Rep. Lee Jong-bae said, “I will exert all my capabilities to ensure that Chungju City stands tall as a true new industrial city in the central inland region.”

Meanwhile, the city plans to complete the business agreement and administrative procedures as soon as possible and proceed with the project with the goal of completing the center in 2026.
