“Am I resigning?” Expressing embarrassment and displeasure by asking questions
Kim Seon-tae, the ‘Chungju Man’ manager who runs the Chungju City YouTube channel, expressed his bewilderment at netizens’ claim that he should be banned from YouTube after leaving the company.
On the 7th, a video titled ‘Ask a Chungju Man about resigning’ was posted on Chungju City’s YouTube channel.
In the video, Supervisor Kim Seon-tae is looking at an online community screen that claims that he should be banned from YouTuber activities if he leaves the company.
Afterwards, the video ends with Director Kim asking the employee behind him, ‘Hey, am I resigning?’
Manager Kim himself has no intention of resigning from the company, but it is interpreted that he felt absurd and offended by the online claim that they were trying to interfere with and restrict his activities after leaving the company, so he responded accordingly.
Earlier, on the 3rd, a post titled ‘It is right to legally prohibit Chungju Man from being a YouTuber after leaving the company’ was posted on an online community.
Mr. A, who wrote the article, argued, “Running YouTube with recognition raised through taxes could set a bad precedent.” And he added, “It seems right to limit profits in related industries such as YouTube broadcasting.”
However, some netizens who read the article gave counter-arguments such as, “It was not because of taxes that it became famous, but rather high-class personnel called Chungju Man worked for a generous salary,” and “Thanks to Chungju Man, Chungju became popular.”
On Chungju City’s YouTube, a comment saying, ‘The whole country is debating about a person resigning without even knowing about it,’ was recommended by about 13,000 people.
Director Kim Seon-tae is a level 6 specialized civil servant who runs the Chungju City YouTube channel and is in charge of the entire video process, including planning, filming, and editing.
Unlike existing local government YouTube channels, the video on Chungju City’s YouTube channel quickly went viral online by utilizing B-grade sensibility and memes that are popular online.
As Chungju City content became popular, Jumugwan Kim also became an online star with the nickname ‘Chungju Man.’ As of the 8th, the number of subscribers to Chungju City’s YouTube was 723,000, ranking first among local government YouTube channels.
