The Minister of Science, Innovation and University, Borja Sánchez, expressed this Wednesday his ambition to consolidate the Foundation for the Promotion of Applied Scientific Research and Technology in Asturias (Ficyt) as a body to accompany ministries and research organizations in projects interregional.
In a statement to Europa Press moments before participating in the second day of the Interreg Europe 3F Green Model project in Oviedo, the head of Science highlighted the importance of Ficyt’s role in interregional projects like this one, in which Serida also participates , and that “position Asturias in an area as important for the future of sustainability as is the reuse of industry by-products”. Ficyt, he added, “is doing a great job” in the management of European projects.
From the Ministry of Science they have the objective of promoting the participation of Asturias in “increasingly more interregional projects”. “That is the path and now we have instruments with which we can now manage European funds well”, he highlighted.
This Wednesday’s session follows up on Tuesday’s meeting of the partners of the Interreg Europe 3F Green Model project, led by Asturias, and in which the regions of Szombathely (Hungary), Cork (Ireland), Sicily (Italy) also participate. and Vidzeme (Latvia). The project seeks to promote the adaptation of the agri-food and forestry value chain to the European Green Pact and the circular economy.
Its objective is to improve the management of agricultural by-products and waste through the exchange of experiences and good practices. This project is endowed with more than a million budget, is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and will be carried out until 2026.
According to Sánchez, this initiative is closely related to the Asturian Smart Specialization Strategy (S3) in everything related to the decarbonisation of production models, which involves generating less waste and revaluing what is generated.
