After a hiatus of three programs, I return to the Quilo Vintage series with a podcast of an unusual style. It is unusual because instead of explaining and commenting on some recent advance in science, for the time, I dedicate myself to explaining a scientific concept, basic knowledge to understand certain things.
In this case, the concept he wanted to explain was that of a unit of astronomical distance, the parsec. My intention, as you will see, was not only for the readers of that time to understand in the most entertaining way possible the magnitude of the distances to which the stars are, but also the magnitude of the distances traveled in one of the series of films of best known and popular fantasy: Star Wars or Star Wars.

This is how he explained, or at least tried to, the concept of parsec. He forgot to mention, however, that only the distances of the stars closest to us can be determined by the parallax method. Finally, it did not say either, since it was impossible for it to do so in 2002, that in August 2015, more than a century after the invention of this unit of distance, the International Astronomical Union finally decided to define the parsec in this way, that is to say , 648,000 divided by pi astronomical units. He also defined this distance in meters according to the redefinition of the exact distance for an astronomical unit, which was done in 2012.
