Óscar Ibañez was dismissed as Cienciano’s coach after drawing 0-0 with Los Chankas in Cusco.

Cienciano from Cusco has announced the departure of Óscar Ibáñez as head coach of the first team. After a goal-less draw against Los Chankas in the fifth round of the Clausura Tournament, the club decided to part ways with him. “We thank you for your work and wish you the best of success in your future projects”, stated the club’s official announcement.

Ibáñez, who took over the role in September 2023, managed Cienciano in 28 matches, achieving 10 wins, 10 draws, and 8 losses. His departure comes amid a sporting crisis for the team, which has gone six matches without a home win and is currently in 16th place in the Clausura Tournament, with only four points.

The management of the Cusco club announced that a new coaching staff will be announced in the coming days to lead the team. The objective will be to reverse the current situation and fight for a spot in international competitions.

During his tenure, Ibáñez failed to establish consistent performance. In the Apertura Tournament, Cienciano accumulated 26 points in 17 matches, finishing in seventh place. In the Clausura Tournament, the team has only garnered three points in five matches, sitting in 15th place.

The next challenge for Cienciano will be to face Carlos Mannucci in Trujillo, a crucial match to start regaining ground in the standings. The Cusco fans hope that the change in the bench will bring new energy and better results for the team.

Cienciano, a historic club in the Liga 1, will seek to get back on the path to victory and fight for greater objectives this season. The uncertainty surrounding the new coach will be resolved soon, and with it, a positive change in the performance of the Cusco team is expected.
