Cincinnati Open Tennis; Garcia advanced to the semi-finals

Cincinnati: France’s Caroline Garcia has qualified for the women’s singles semifinals at the Western & Southern Cincinnati Open tennis series in the US. In the quarterfinals, Garcia (ranked 35th), who faced American Jessica Pegula (ranked 8), won 6-1, 7-5 in straight sets to advance to the semi-finals. The match ended in 1 hour and 12 minutes. In another quarter-final, Aryna Sabalenka (7th rank, Belarus) beat China’s Huai Zhang (44th rank) in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).

Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic) and Madison Keys (USA) also qualified for the semifinals. Garcia – Sabalenka, Madison Keys – Kvitova will meet in the semi-finals. Medvedev advances: Men’s singles World No. 1 Danil Medvedev (Russia) cruised to a 2-0 straight sets win over Taylor Fritz (USA) and Stephanos Tsitsipas (Greece) 2-1 over John Eisner (USA) to enter the semifinals. Cameron Norrie (England) and Borna Coric (Croatia) also qualified for the semi-finals. Medvedev – Tsitsipas, Nori – Borna clash in the semi-finals.
