The list of complaints about Tel Aviv is longer than “Sin and Punishment” (and yes, we are totally proof of that), but you can’t complain about a lack of movie theaters/events, for all kinds of fans of the seventh art: for fans of HOT Films French comedies on Saturday morning, ” Lev Dizingoff” stands faithful; For fanatics of Tom Cruise jumping off the Stock Exchange Tower, Rav Chen Dizengoff provides a popular movie consumption experience that manages to be even more intimate (or actually, less mass) than the big Cina City/Yes Planet duplexes; And for film students from Tel Aviv University who are waiting to hear from the practitioner, those who really need to receive the monthly dose of Pasolini’s restorations accompanied by a lecture by Erez Deborah – the Cinematheque is more than home.
But rather a tiny place – much more a viewing booth than a cinema – which is located in an area that has a lot of power in Florentine and manages to provide a communal and warm experience for people who have the cinema (of all times) in their hearts. The new “Cinema Canada” (only 3 years old) is the creation of Eyal Roe and Ido Gavish, who studied in the film majors of Thelma Yelin and Ironi A., and got to know each other after watching each other’s final videos. Their desire to see a place that would give them a different stage for film work and connect them with other film lovers, and young people, led them to create the place.

Cinema Canada continues every week to screen works (and host events) that you might not often get to see on the big screen: masterpieces by Fellini and Godard alongside active screenings of “The Rocky Horror Show” and “The Room”; Stand-up artists’ evenings start alongside Avi Bitter film premieres. Sometimes they even show a video from YouTube there. But most of all – the best experience of all is finding out every week which unique and bizarre films will be screened or which “Mexico” building in the university you will meet this time, or the excitement before entering, which is not always possible in the hustle and bustle of a normal movie theater – these are what make “Cinema Canada” , the little hole in the heart of a dark alley, to a place that feels like a real home.
