It may be that indoor cinemas are closed during this period, perhaps for maintenance and so on. However, someone, regarding the “Puccini” cinema theatre in Altopascio, in via Regina Margherita, noticed a message on the website in which the managers thanked them for the attention received in recent years – last screening on August 7 – , without a see you in September and the contacts disappeared. In short, it could have been interpreted as a farewell. And, in fact, it is. But be careful. Only from the current managers.

A new tender will be announced and the structure will reopen in a few weeks, including the next prose season which usually begins around November. The town hall in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele explains: “The contract with Mr. Riccardo La Cava for management has expired. The Municipality has therefore published a new procedure to identify another manager, but with a new method, that of co-design”.

“What does this mean? Third sector cultural operators will also be able to join in – explains the note – with the aim of expanding and differentiating the offering, especially the theatrical aspect. La Cava could still participate in this new procedure, joining forces with a third sector entity with which to develop co-design. At this point the procedure is closed, the Municipality is doing all the routine checks, we will know more in the first few days of September and the new project and the new manager will be officially announced. The municipal administration extends a big thank you to Riccardo La Cava for the many initiatives carried out together in recent years: for example, in 2017, the Municipality restarted the open-air cinema after years of absence and did it with him”.

“One fact – the note concludes – should be underlined: both cinema and theatre will restart regularly and without problems in a short time; for the autumn we will have a new programme and then the theatre season”.

So far the institution that specifies that, for the users, nothing will change: only a bureaucratic factor, deadline of the tender and procedure to follow. The “Puccini” cinema (so called in honor of the Maestro) restarted in 2011, after closing in 1985, after 26 years of stoppage. In 1995 the Municipality bought it from private individuals, but it took another 16 years before the new inauguration. About 300 seats, it is at the forefront in the Lucca area. Massimo Stefanini
