Cinema: Science + Fiction, Lifetime Achievement Award to Abel Ferrara – Entertainment

(ANSA) – TRIESTE, 25 OCT – Director Abel Ferrara, cult filmmaker and master of genre cinema, receives the Asteroide Lifetime Achievement Award of the Trieste Science + Fiction Festival, scheduled from 27 October to 3 November live in the Julian capital and online on the MYmovies SciFiClub platform. Abel Ferrara – the promoters announce – will receive the award during a ceremony at the Politeama Rossetti on November 1st at 8 pm. His latest film “Zeros and Ones” will be screened afterwards, a noir thriller starring actor Ethan Hawke . Written during the first phase of the pandemic, the film follows the story of JJ, an American soldier in Rome in the aftermath of an apocalyptic siege, in lockdown due to an epidemic and an unspecified war. Born in the Bronx, New York, in 1951, Abel Ferrara directed his first Super 8 as a boy and soon collaborated with screenwriters Nicholas St. John and John McIntyre. In the late 1970s he began directing his first films, The Driller Killer (1979) and The Angel of Vengeance (1981). In the 90s with the neo-noir King of New York (1990) came the international successes. Followed by The Bad Lieutenant, Body Snatchers, The Addiction; Fratelli, with Benicio Del Toro, Christopher Walken and Isabella Rossellini, won two prizes at the Venice Film Festival in 1996, Mary, with Juliette Binoche, Forest Whitaker and Heather Graham, won four in 2005.
