This critical role will focus on navigating complex security, compliance, privacy, and sovereignty challenges, acting as a trusted advisor to both government entities and key stakeholders.
Strengthening the National Cyber Foundation
The position, part of the National Security Organization (NSO), will be instrumental in strengthening the national cyber foundation and accelerating the adoption of secure cloud and AI technologies. According to a company release, the NSO will partner closely with Corporate, External & Legal Affairs (CELA), Engineering, and Field leadership to achieve these objectives.
Core Responsibilities
The role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including:
- Compliance & Certification: Leading risk management, compliance, and certification activities to unlock opportunities within the public sector and regulated industries.
- Sovereignty & Privacy: Partnering with internal teams to remove barriers and expand Microsoft’s reach in critical infrastructure and other sensitive areas.
- Cyber Safety & Resiliency: Supporting security agencies in preparing for and mitigating both current and next-generation cyber threats.
- Strategic Narrative: Defining and executing the country-specific Microsoft Security strategy, aligning it with local requirements and leadership.
- External Representation: Serving as Microsoft’s visible security spokesperson at key events, executive briefings, and partner forums.
- Incident Response: Establishing and managing platforms for internal and external training against cyber threats, and coordinating national-scale incident response efforts.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Microsoft is seeking a candidate with at least 10 years of experience providing security-focused technical guidance and consulting. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is required, with a Master’s degree or PhD in Security being a significant plus.
A senior official stated that the ideal candidate will be a “credible, compelling security executive and trusted advisor” capable of building sustained relationships with C-level stakeholders across government, critical infrastructure, and regulated enterprises.
The role demands broad competency across key security areas, including identity management, multi-cloud security, compliance, Extended Detection and Response (XDR), Zero Trust architecture, and sovereignty controls. Experience leading national or sectoral incident response programs and familiarity with relevant policy frameworks are also essential. Executive-level communication skills and fluency in both Korean and English are considered a plus for the Korea market.
