City beat Arsenal in Premier League; Chelsea directly lost in the Champions League

Manchester: Manchester City defeated Arsenal in the big battle of the English Premier League. City won by three goals to one. Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland scored for the defending champions. Bukayo Saka scored Arsenal’s consolation goal.

City’s goal chase started with Kevin De Bruyne in the 24th minute. Just before the end of the first half, Bukayo Saka pulled Arsenal level with a penalty in the 42nd minute. Jack Grealish put City ahead again in the 72nd minute. In the 82nd minute, Erling Haaland completed the scoring for City.

With the win, City overtook Arsenal to top the points table. Both teams have 51 points each. City’s number one position is on the strength of goal average. But Arsenal, who have played one less game, can return to the top spot if they win the next game.

After the Premier League, Chelsea suffered a setback in the Champions League football. In the first leg of the pre-quarters, Chelsea lost to Borussia Dortmund by a goalless goal. Karim Adeyemi scored the winning goal in the sixty-third minute.

Benfica beat Club Brugge 2-0 in another Champions League pre-quarters match. Benfica’s goals were scored by Yao Mario and David Nerez in the second half. The goals were in the 51st and 88th minutes.
