City buses should be emission-free throughout the EU by 2030

by time news

The European Commission exempts emergency vehicles, buses and trucks in difficult geographical conditions from their new emissions targets.

They should apply from 2025 – but before the current regulations for greenhouse gas emissions from heavy commercial vehicles begin to take effect, they will already be tightened: on Tuesday, the European Commission presented its proposal for a revised version of the emission regulations for all motor vehicles that have more than weigh five tons. It stipulates that the entire fleet of buses, trucks and other heavy commercial vehicles registered in the EU will emit 90 percent less carbon dioxide as of January 1, 2040 than in the base year 1990. In less than seven years, from January 1, 2030, their total contribution to the greenhouse effect must be reduced by 45 percent.
