The pastor Mark Driscoll ordered at the city hall of the city where his church is based to remove a sign with the name of Jesus Christ and a reference to the current year, 2024. However, the evangelical leader has already warned that he will disobey and multiply the signs.

Mark Driscoll announced that he had received an email from the city of Scottsdale, in the state of Arizona (USA), demanding that he remove the sign with the words “Jesus Christ’24”, installed on the property of the Trinity Church.

“We are receiving complaints about a temporary sign that has been put up in the ROW near the church. This sign does not seem to be a political sign”, says an excerpt from the email read by the priest to the congregation.

“Someone complains,” said the priest, adding that “the government asked us to remove the plaque of Jesus’ 24,” but the action will not be taken: “My answer? We will not surrender, but we will grow.”

During the service, the pastor showed his congregation photos of the neighborhood where the sign was placed near Trinity Church, including a series of political signs similar to the one the church had placed.

Driscoll challenged the government to address some of the country’s most pressing problems rather than focusing on enforcing license plates: “I would humbly say if you guys work for the government before you go out collecting license plates, figure out how to close the border and take care of the people before the signs.”

Secularism

Taking advantage of the episode, the pastor told the story of Scottsdale and its founder, US Army chaplain Winfield Scott, in 1888, pointing out that a largely Christian place in the past is suffering the effects of secularism:

“They named the city after a priest who taught the Bible. He moved here, started a Bible study and planted a church. If Winfield Scott was here, he’d say he probably had a ‘Jesus Christ 1888’ sign in front of his church when they started in Scottsdale, Arizona, because he’s a Bible-believing Christian.”

Then, the pastor informed that all members would receive a similar plaque to be installed in their homes and asked the church to vote according to their faith and not based on party politics: “When choosing your political leader you, be sure to choose your eternal Savior,” he said.

Months ago, pastor Mark Driscoll said that Christians must vote “soberly” and declared that neither President Joe Biden nor Trump are attractive candidates:

“The truth is that we will have two candidates, both old. I want someone younger. They are both flesh and blood. So we have a flesh and blood Democrat, and we have a flesh and blood Republican. If you are filled with the Holy Spirit, your options are terrible, but welcome to America,” he said at the time, according to the The Christian Post.

Later, after the debate between Trump and Kamala Harris, who replaced Joe Biden in the presidential race, he wrote on X that the Democratic candidate appeared to be under the influence of a “false anointing”, adding: “New times, old demons”.
