With Ederson starting at the back again, City braved the cold night in Turin in search of another 3 points in the 24/25 Champions League season.
In this sixth game in the championship, City were trying to get closer to the top 8 of the table, a position that ensures they will automatically go to the knock-out stage. Juventus, who until then were one place below the Blues, too.
The night was important for Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese emerged as City’s player with the most Champions League appearances. It was his 74th appearance for the club in the competition.
HOW WAS THE GAME
The fight started evenly at the Juventus Stadium. But until the first 20 minutes, neither team had any chance to score. Still, City maintained control, with 70% possession of the ball.
Shortly after 30 minutes of play, Yildiz received a throw and ran down the left, looking for the first goal of the game.
Doku tried to the left side, but was blocked by Savona and at least one other marker. The big chance for City was to flash a ball past the Juventus defense, which ended at the feet of Haaland. The Norwegian was unable to power his shot, though.
About 40 minutes, KDB got Haaland, who came face to face with Di Gregorio. But Juve’s goalkeeper got the better of the dispute.
This was the best chance of the first half.
7 minutes after the restart, Juventus opened the scoring. After a cross from the left, number 9 Vlahović stepped up and headed it. Ederson defended, but did not catch the ball, and ended up going over the white line.
city tried to respond with successive shots from Doku and Lewis. Both finished in the blocks of the Italian team.
At 67, Gundogan gave a stunning shot towards the goal of Juve. Di Gregorio stretched himself and managed to prevent the equaliser.
But at 74, Juve increased. In a counter attack, two players who entered five minutes earlier made the difference. Weah crossed and McKennie took the first goal to score the second.
but it was no use. Juventus kept the difference and City suffered their second defeat in six games, and moved away from the group that guarantees direct access to the round of 16 of the championship.

How can Manchester City improve their finishing to secure victories in high-stakes matches?
Interviewer: Good day, and welcome to another edition of Time.news. Today, we’re diving deep into the Champions League scene wiht a special guest, football analyst and former professional player, Alex Turner.Alex, great to have you here!
Alex Turner: Thanks for having me! Excited to talk football.
Interviewer: Let’s jump right in.Manchester City just played against juventus in their latest Champions League match, and it was quite a chilly night in Turin. From what we know, City was looking to secure those crucial three points. What do you make of their performance?
Alex Turner: Well, it was an captivating match! City had a lot of possession, around 70%, wich shows their intention to dominate. However, they struggled to convert that possession into clear scoring opportunities. It’s that classic battle of controlling the game without finding the back of the net.
Interviewer: Absolutely. I noticed that for the initial 20 minutes, neither team had notable chances. What do you think was the key factor for City in maintaining control early on?
Alex Turner: It really came down to their midfield play. Players like Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva were instrumental in ensuring that City maintained possession. Their ability to circulate the ball and draw Juventus out of their shape helped keep City in control.
Interviewer: Speaking of Bernardo Silva, this match was a personal milestone for him—his 74th Champions League appearance for City. How crucial is a player of his caliber in high-stakes matches like these?
Alex Turner: Bernardo is a key player for City. His experience in the Champions League is invaluable, especially on a night when the team is looking to secure their place in the knockout stages. He not only creates chances but also motivates his teammates. Having players who can perform under pressure is essential.
Interviewer: Later in the match, there were some moments of frustration for City, particularly with chances created but not converted. erling Haaland had a couple of opportunities he couldn’t bury. How significant is finishing ability, especially in tight matches like this?
Alex Turner: Finishing is everything in football. The tight margins in matches like these mean that when chances come, they have to be taken. Haaland is known for his scoring prowess, so it’s surprising he didn’t capitalize. If city wants to make a serious run in this tournament, they need their star striker to be clinical.
Interviewer: Do you think the cold weather in Turin played a role in the gameplay or the players’ performance?
Alex Turner: it can have an affect, especially on players who are not used to such temperatures. Cold weather can slow down reactions and affect stamina, so it’s critically important for teams to warm up adequately. However, top professionals usually adapt pretty well to different conditions.
Interviewer: As City looks to climb higher in the standings, what strategies do you think they need to implement in their upcoming matches?
Alex Turner: They need to be more ruthless in front of goal. It’s also crucial for them to work on their finishing drills in training leading up to crucial fixtures. Furthermore, they might assess their approach against teams that defend deep, looking for more creative ways to break down stubborn defenses.
Interviewer: Great insights, Alex! Before we wrap up, do you see City making a strong push for the knockout stage?
Alex Turner: Absolutely! They’re a solid team with a lot of potential. If they can sharpen their finishing and maintain their possession style, I see them easily breaking into the knockout rounds.
