The excess costs of the City of Morges in 2023 amount to CHF 1.4 million. Although negative, this result is much better than predicted in the budget, which is an excess cost of CHF 10.3 million. This large gap is largely explained by tax revenues that are much higher than expected, reaching a total of CHF 87.0 million in 2023 (CHF 70.8 million budgeted). This good result is mainly explained by the tax on the profits of legal entities.

As a consequence of these increased tax revenues, the contribution of the City of Morges to inter-city equalization has also been revised upwards. The Municipality pays CHF 30.8 million into the common pot, or CHF 11.4 million more than planned in the budget. This greatly affects the result.

In 2023 again, the City of Morges paid attention to its expenses. Controllable expenses remain stable, at CHF 43.3 million, down CHF 0.9 million compared to the budget.

A third of the annual investments for Chanel

Investments reached CHF 26.8 million, a level that has remained high for several years. 35% of these investment costs relate to the construction of the new Chanel College, which is due to open to students and staff at the start of the school year in August 2024. A tenth of the investments relate to the Beausobre site. The first use of the right of pre-emption by the City on a plot is part of the significant investments of 2023 (CHF 3.5 million). The self-financing margin reached CHF 12.1 million, covering 45% of investments. Net debt amounts to CHF 79.8 million, CHF 8.2 million more than the previous year.

Out-of-school care for children continues to be in high demand. In response to this, the City of Morges has created 57 places in after-school care. While ensuring that high quality services are maintained, strict expenditure control is still necessary to meet the current and future needs of the Morgan population.
