“After the Christmas atmosphere we are getting into the heart of the organization of the festival, so we are in the midst of activating all the safety measures as every year, which are the responsibility of the Prefect. The setting up of the stage is also about to be completed at interior of the Ariston”. The mayor of Sanremo, Alberto Biancheri, tells time.news about the ‘behind the scenes’ of the city which is preparing to welcome the seventy-fourth edition of the Sanremo Festival from 6 to 11 February. “The city has been totally sold out, for a long time now – says the mayor of the Ligurian city – And not just the city in the strict sense. I don’t have the data from the province but like every year now, from Montecarlo to Mentone to Imperia the structures are busy and full for weeks before”.

The 2024 edition is (at the moment) the last Amadeus festival and, Biancheri reveals, it is particularly felt by the city. “From what I can say and what I have seen as mayor, in recent years there has been, apart from the two years of Covid, a constant increase and enormous growth of the festival, also in people’s expectations”. The mayor is inundated with requests for access and tickets. “Requests for tickets arrive in the most unlikely ways and in hundreds, even in nice ways I admit, but we have already concluded before Christmas, 99% of the tickets have been given out”, he smiles.

Little hope therefore for those who want to attend one of the five evenings of the Ariston theatre, but many opportunities for fun for those who want to experience the atmosphere of the event in every corner of the city. “It’s a festival where people, beyond the tickets, come more and more to experience the atmosphere not only inside the Ariston but right in the city, experiencing it on the stages, in the streets – explains Biancheri – This is very important, I am very happy with the great work that has been done, by Amadeus, by Rai and by us.” From Piazza Colombo to Piazza Bresca, from the Casino to the streets of the centre, up to the large central stage in Piazza Colombo. “I know there have been inspections with the Municipality, they are making the final decisions.” But this is not the last festival just for Amadeus: “It’s the last festival for me too because it’s the tenth, then I’ve run out of mandates because you can’t do more than two”, the first reveals to time.news citizen of Sanremo. A festival therefore “special for me too. On the one hand I am happy, because it was challenging – the mayor jokes – on the other I will be very sorry. And I will miss it”.
