jpnn.comJAKARTA – The role of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) is an important focus in maintaining a harmonious political climate ahead of the 2024 simultaneous regional elections.

“The role of CSOs is very important as civil society organizations at the grass roots. In recent years, the space for civil liberties has become increasingly smaller. “Therefore, good consolidation is needed between civil society to maintain order and harmony during the 2024 Pilkada,” said LP3S Director of Law and Human Rights Hadi R Purnama when met at a focus group discussion with the theme “Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in creating a political climate that is harmony ahead of the 2024 simultaneous regional elections” in the Mampang Prapatan area, Tuesday (1/10).

He acknowledged that in a political context, conflict or tension cannot be avoided. However, according to him, CSOs have a key role in maintaining this stability.

“We know there will definitely be explosions, it’s also called politics. Therefore, how we ensure that this Pilkada runs smoothly and peacefully is very important,” he added.

Apart from political education and outreach, Hadi emphasized that monitoring by CSOs is very important.

“This monitoring is not only related to the vote counting process, but in the context of the entire regional election process,” he said.

According to Hadi, CSOs need to learn from previous elections to anticipate potential problems that might arise during the Pilkada.

Hadi also highlighted the importance of maintaining political harmony amidst fierce competition.
