During a tour of the Jamaica Marketin the Venustiano Carranza mayor’s office, Clara Brugadacandidate for head of Government for the Let’s Keep Making History coalition, emphasized that public markets will be a priority for its administration, and highlighted its importance as community and economic centers of Mexico City.

Brugada stressed the relevance of the markets as spaces where the community makes purchases and where community identity is builtensuring that they will be a priority for the next city government.

In that sense, he promised to continue with the market maintenance and rehabilitation program, working in collaboration with mayors to improve these infrastructures.

One of Brugada’s proposals is the installation of solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems in public markets, which represents progress towards sustainability in the city.

In addition, he emphasized his commitment to the fight against extortion, announcing the installation of panic buttons and the incorporation of the markets into the video surveillance camera program to guarantee the safety of tenants and visitors.

“We want there to be zero extortion in the markets and that we guarantee the technology so that each market has video cameras, has panic buttons connected to the C5,” the candidate highlighted.

The Morena candidate and her allies also proposed the implementation of the Public Care System in the marketsensuring the well-being of girls and boys through Child Care and Development Centers, as well as the promotion of recreational activities and laundries.

To boost the family and market economy, Brugada announced the “Abasto para el Bienestar” program, which will consist of the delivery of vouchers exchangeable for basic products in public markets.

Likewise, he committed to promoting markets as cultural spaces, respecting their community identity and tradition.

During the tour of the Jamaica Market, Brugada Molina was able to interact with tenants and visitors, who expressed their support for her proposals. She invited the population to visit this important market and consume local products.

The candidate reiterated her commitment to working to make public markets engines of economic growth and a fundamental part of the popular economy of Mexico City.
